Step into the brutal world of 1950s American dirt oval racing.
The 1952 AAA Dirt Sprint Car Championship puts drivers behind the wheel of powerful Offenhauser-powered sprint cars on tight, dusty bullrings where survival is often more important than raw speed. Every race night follows the classic format of qualifying, heat races, and a main feature, where only the toughest cars and smartest drivers reach the finish.
Mechanical failures are common, tracks change grip every few laps, and wheel-to-wheel contact is part of the spectacle. Drivers must choose between safe, reliable machines or wild, high-risk rockets capable of winning — or exploding.
The championship spans eight dirt events, each favoring different cars and driving styles. But in true AAA tradition, the title is not decided by points. The champion is the driver who earns the most money.
Winning brings glory. Finishing pays the bills.
Event Format
Each race event follows this structure:
- Practice / Time Trials
- 1–2 timed laps to seed heat races
- Some events may use a pill draw instead of qualifying
- Heat Races
- 8–12 laps
- 6–10 cars per heat
- Rolling start
- Top finishers advance directly to the Feature
- Consolation Race (optional)
- Last chance to qualify for the Feature
- Feature Race
- 12–20 starters
- Rolling start with flagman (no pace car)
- 20–50 laps depending on track
- No pit stops allowed
- Start money earned if you get into green flag - even if you DNF later
- There's still additional price money for finishers
If a car breaks or runs out of fuel, it is retired from the race (DNF).
Rules
Starts & Restarts
- Rolling starts only
- No pace car
- Green flag waved by flagman when ready
- Restarts may be single or double file
- There are no wave-arounds. Lapped cars remain lapped.
Flags
- Green – racing
- Yellow – caution, drivers slow down
- Black – driver disqualified for dangerous or unsportsmanlike behavior
- There is no safety car.
Contact
- Light contact and rubbing are considered normal in dirt sprint racing.
- Deliberate wrecking or dangerous driving may result in a black flag.
- Drivers are expected to self-police their behavior.
Cars and fees
Six different car archetypes are available:
| Car type | Entry Fee | Start Money | DNF Repair Cost | Handling and Financial Logic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kurtis-Kraft Offenhauser | 60 | 220 | 40 | Cheap and safe. Designed to consistently finish races and secure steady income. Very steady and easy to drive, but quite slow. |
| Kurtis-Kraft Ford V8-60 | 90 | 230 | 60 | Reliable endurance option with balanced risk and income potential. Also very steady and slowest of the pack. |
| Schroeder Offenhauser | 120 | 240 | 80 | Competitive baseline car with moderate costs and rewards. Faster and twistier car, but still relatively easy to drive. Best all-arounder. |
| Watson Offenhauser | 170 | 260 | 120 | High-performance machine with higher financial risk. |
| Kurtis-Kraft Cadillac V8 | 200 | 280 | 150 | Spectacular but unstable; rewards risk but punish DNFs. |
| Trevis Offenhauser | 240 | 300 | 200 | Maximum performance gamble with the highest financial risk. |
- Different track types favor different cars.
- Safer cars have lower entry costs and repair bills but earn less start money.
- Wild cars cost more to run but pay more if they make the feature.
- Frequent DNFs with risky cars quickly become financially unsustainable, encouraging strategic car choices throughout the season.
All cars and tracks are available in CVR Discord.
